tiktok engagement calculator

paste a post's numbers, get its engagement rate and where it lands. calculated in your browser, stored nowhere.

the formula (and the trap)

The view-based engagement rate is (likes + comments + shares) ÷ views × 100. There's a second formula in the wild — engagement against followers — that produces much bigger numbers for the same post. When a brand or a report quotes a rate, always ask which one; comparing a view-based 5% to a follower-based 15% tells you nothing.

reading your number

Rule-of-thumb bands for the view-based rate: under ~3% is below typical, 3–6% is solid, 6–10% is strong, and above 10% is exceptional. Treat these as orientation, not law — niches differ (comedy runs hotter than B2B), small accounts run hotter than huge ones, and a single outlier post proves nothing either way. The pattern across your last ten posts is the real signal.

raising it

Engagement follows completion, and completion follows structure: a first-second hook, slides or cuts that each earn the next, and a payoff that invites a comment. If you're working in slideshows, keep the count tight (3–8 slides) and the text inside the safe zone — buried hooks don't get engaged with. Study what's working for others by pulling their post's numbers into this calculator and their script through the transcriber.
